Talking to mediapersons at the Hotel Excellency here today, Udoi announced that he would resign from the DPP and take up the cudgel to safeguard the territorial integrity of the State if the peace talks to find a solution to the vexed decades old Naga issue between the two parties ever tried to compromised it.

Alleging the Government of India of trying to compromise the territorial integrity of Manipur in the past over and over again in spite of assurances to the people, Udoi warned that if the Government of India failed to gauge the sentiment of the people, they might be constraint to raise the demand for pre-merger status.

The people might be even go further and asked for complete secession from the country, Udoi averred.

He also called upon the people to stay alert but unitedly as nothing is sure about the outcome of the peace talks vis--vis the territorial integrity of Manipur.

DPP spokesman RK Anand said that though he welcomed the Centre-NSCN (I-M) peace talks, he was skeptical that any good result will come out of it towards solving the Naga problem.

He asserted that even if the Centre had lifted the unlawful tag from the outfit and has accorded honour to Th Muivah, he is still a criminal to the people of Manipur for all the lootings, extortion, killings and kidnap-pings committed since the announcement of cease fire in 1997.Since the Government of India has not yet initiated any move to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur by amending the Article 3 of the Constitution despite popular demand, the apprehension about the disturbance of the existing territory still remain strong in the minds of the people, he maintained.

Nevertheless, Anand expressed hope that the two parties would be definitely taking into account the sentiment of the people of Manipur while furthering the peace process.
