Imphal, August 08: Taking serious note of the decisions taken by some organisations to close down SAI, Imphal Centre and their directive to all employees to resign in the wake of leaving out L Monika from Beijing Olympics based on a dubious dupe test.

Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, players and students of SAI, Imphal Centre appealed to the group concerned to re-think its resolution of awarding capital punishment to those SAI employees who refused to resign.

They also appealed to retract the decision to shut up SAI, Imphal Centre.

Closing down SAI Imphal Centre would be certainly a great loss to players of Manipur but it would not mean any loss to the Centre, as some elements have already been lobbying ti shift the centre to Guwahati, they observed.

While expressing great despair at victimising Monika, the SAI players pledged that they would join whole-heartedly in all movements launched by the people towards sending Monika to Beijing Olympics.

Arjuna Awardee Sanamacha Chanu has also appealed to the group concerned to retract the decision of banning SAI, Imphal Centre saying that it would very dear to the players of Manipur.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by SAI, Imphal Centre, Administrative Officer while reacting to the press statement issued by KCP warning all employees of the Centre to resign or face capital punishment, informed that all the three Manipuri players selected for participation in Beijing Olympics were trained at SAI, Imphal Centre.

But the unfortunate incident of dropping Monika from Beijing Olympics was not related to SAI, Imphal Centre in any manner whatsoever, it pointed out.

Asserting that SAI, Imphal Centre leads other SAI centres located in different parts of the country in terms of performance/achievements, it clarified that SAI Imphal Centre has been only producing good players.

It does not enjoy any right in selecting players for Beijing Olympics or other Olympics.

"Had the officials of SAI Imphal Centre enjoyed any right on sending players to Olympics, is there any reason why they should not work towards the right path", it asked.

Reminding that the Centre had produced outstanding players like Kunjarani, Sanamacha, Brojeshwori, Dingku, Suresh, Surjalata, Tingongleima, Sangai Ibemhal, Gojen etc, it appealed to the UG group concerned not to impose any prohibitions on SAI Imphal Centre so as no to discourage players being trained in the Centre and to enable SAI, Imphal Centre produce more outstanding players and Olympians.
