Imphal, February 08: The person gunned down by a team of Imphal West district commandos in between Lamdeng and Kameng under Lamshang PS yesterday afternoon is informed to be a PREPAK activist while police report confirmed slaying of another three suspected to be KCP activists.

The three were slain during an encounter at Samurou at around 10.05 pm yesterday with further searches of nearby spots leading to the recovery of two 7.65 pistols with two magazines and six rounds besides one 36 H.E hand grenade with detonator, said a statement issued by SP (IW) Clay Khongsai today.

according to the SP, commandos of Imphal West district rushed to Shamurou area last night on getting specific information of some KCP members loitering in and around Shamurou areas purportedly for extortion.

Upon nearing Naran Konjil Lamkhai and Shamurou some unknown youths suddenly opened fire towards the commando team and tried to escape, the statement added.

Even as the security personnel took position and retaliated swiftly, the unknown youths hurled a grenade that exploded that however caused no casualty to the commandos, the SP said while adding that in the ensuing encounter three unknown youths suspected to belong to the outlawed KCP organisation were killed with 4/5 persons managing to escape in different directions under the cover of darkness.

One of the victims has been today identified as Santosh Thapa (25), who was staying with his wife at a rented quarter in Kakwa Angom Leikai.

Santosh, whose body is kept at RIMS morgue, is said to be driver (jeep) by profession.

In another statement, the SP informed of Imphal West district commandos arresting one KYKL activist from Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai at around 1.30 pm today.

Identifying the captured individual as Soibam Nanao Singh alias Biren (31) s/o S Taba Singh of Khongjom Tekcham but presently staying at Akampat, the statement conveyed of Nanao disclosing during preliminary interrogation that he underwent basic military training in 1998 at Konchak of Nagaland.

Nanao, whose Army number is said to be 778, was reportedly working under one Corporal Tayai of Tentha.

As per comments of family members the victim shot dead at Kameng area Pukhrambam Surjit (29) s/o P Kalanjoy of Lambal Awang Leikai, left home some one and half year back to join the PREPAK outfit.

He reportedly arrived back to Imphal from Myanmar about a month back and was staying at a rented quarter in Sagolband area with his second wife.

Family sources also alleged that he was picked up from Jiri Parking in Wahengbam Leikai at around 11 am yesterday by uniformed personnel who came in two Maruti Gypsys.

Family members have claimed the body from RIMS morgue today.
