Imphal, December 03: A suspected UG cadre was shot dead by troops of 1 AR at Molvailup village under Chassad police station of Ukhrul district at about 2.30 am today.

A press release issued by Assam Rifles PRO informed that troops of 1 AR of 10 Sector under IG AR (S) launched a massive search and combing operation at Molvailup area near border pillar number 113.As the troops observed movement of UG cadres near the border pillar, the troops challenged the UG cadres but they were fired upon.

As the troops retaliated, one UG cadre was killed, said the PRO.

One pistol (Italian made) with magazine, one magazine of AK 47, 3 live rounds of AK 47 and two fired cases of AK ammunition were recovered from the slain UG cadre, it added.

The corpse of the unidentified person with the ears pierced has been handed over to Chassad PS.

It will be brought to RIMS morgue tomorrow.

Interestingly, two individuals shot dead by the same Assam Rifles unit on suspicion of being UG cadres at Pihang under Chassad PS in the intervening night of November 26 and 27 cannot be identified till date and their corpses are lying in RIMS mortuary.

As no relatives have come forward till date, the corpses will be handed over to Imphal Municipality tomorrow.

Incidentally, the corpses four individuals shot dead by 1 AR troops posted at Kamjong on suspicion of being UG cadres earlier were also handed over to Imphal Municipality as their identities could not be established.

Before the Pihang incident, two individuals were gunned down by 1 AR troops as UG suspects in the night of November 3 at a place between Khambi and Patbung under Phungyar PS.

Unable to identify the slain individuals, their corpses were among those handed over to IMC for disposal.
