Imphal, July 02: Personnel of Imphal West district police commando unit have gunned down a suspected underground activist at near Manipur Zoological Garden at around 7 pm today even as report was received of unidentified persons firing shots in the air at Wangoi Bazar area earlier in the day.

According to a police source, the yet to be identified individual was slain in retaliatory action by the Imphal West commandos who were on patrolling duty at near the Second Home of Sangai.

The commandos observed the individual moving in a suspicious manner and before he could moving in a suspicions manner and before he could be asked to identify shots were tired towards the commandos, the source maintained wliile adding that body of the deceased had been deposited at RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons numbering two, who came on a Honda Activa scooter, resorted to random firing at near the Wangoi Bazar office of Integrated Child Development Scheme, Wangoi this afternoon at around I.After firing about three rounds the youths reportedly sped towards Waheng Khuman side with a police team from Wangoi police station following them a short while after the incident.

There is no report of arrest.

According to informed sources, the youths insisted on meeting the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) who was not present at the office at that moment.

As the youths persisted on meeting the CDPO and asked certain employees to show them their Officer's residence all the employees present there volunteered they too be taken away.

With the employees out numbering the duo they resorted to firing in me air before scurrying away from there.

Police sources speculate the youths to be KCP-MC activists but could not specify on the shooting.

Meanwhile, one Md Nijamuddin (28) s/o Jabar, who had been undergoing treatment at the ENT ward RIMS Hospital after suffering bullet injuries, sneaked out of the medical centre this morning without approval/discharge order from the hospital authorities.

Nijamuddin was undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 30 after he was shot and wounded by unidentified persons at Mutum Phibou, under Wangoi police station.

Nijamuddin hails from Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
