Bullets gifted to chemist shop, protest held

Imphal, October 29 2008: In connection with monetary demand of the proscribed outfit PREPAK, two bullets were reportedly left at Lamphel Pharmacy located near the southern gate of RIMS Hospital.

In protest against the incident and urging for withdrawal of the monetary demand, Pharmacists of the area staged a Wakat Meepham today.

According to the protestors, two unidentified youths came and left the bullets at Lamphel Pharmacy at around 10 am today and in no time the information spread like wild fire.

Monetary demand was served to the Pharmacies on October 7, the protestors informed, though they did not disclose the exact amount demanded.

The matter has been brought to the notice of the All Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association.

On the other hand, bomb experts of the State Police Department retrieved a hand grenade which was found lying at the Yumnam Leikai Lairembi residence Yumnam Mohendra (56) who is the Executive Engineer of Division-II of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.

The hand grenade was later defused safely by the bomb experts.

According to family members, some days earlier, some unidentified persons had come to the house asking the EE to grant the contract work of the Dolaithabi Barrage construction.

But they have no idea who have left the bomb and when.

The bomb was detected by the family members at around 5 am today.

Police have also recovered a hand grenade pin from near the gate of the house.
