Imphal, January 29: Protesting the 'cover provided' by the SPF Government to Speaker TN Haokip, Works Minister Gaikhangam and TD Minister Ngamthang Haokip, the Opposition DPA took the battle to the streets and staged a one day dharna in front of the MPP office today.

Addressing the gathering, DPA leader and MPP president O Joy said that it would be more constructive to hand over the murder case of Elizabeth to a House Committee instead of roping in the CBI and added that the Government ought to agree with this suggestion.

Acknowledging the role played by voluntary organisations in trying to capture James Kuki by launching the great NH-39 chase after the UNLF spelt out his name as being the king pin in the murder of the little girl, Joy said it would be unethical and wrong for the Government to turn a blind eye to the sentiments of the people.

Taking pot shots at the Government, Joy questioned why James Kuki managed to escape to Dimapur by passing the numerous police check posts on the highway.

The fire brand Opposition leader said that while the police was trying to solve the case, some Ministers were providing the main accused shelter and even went to the extent of giving him money to escape.

Lauding the efforts of the UNLF in unmasking the identity of the killers and the NSCN (IM) for capturing James Kuki, Joy appealed to the NSCN (IM) to further keep the people informed of the confessions made by James Kuki who is in their custody.

Reacting to the charges of the Congress that the BJP is maintaining clandestine links with the BJP, MLA M Bhorot who is also a National secretary of the party said that the allegations of the Congress are baseless and added that it is the Congress which has been supping with the NSCN(IM).

Joining in the address to the gathering, MPP MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the DPA will not attend the Assembly session which is to be presided by the Speaker, as the Speaker's name has been linked to the case by the NSCN (IM) on the basis of the confessions made by James Kuki.

The DPA will only take part in the proceedings of the Assembly if the Deputy Speaker presides and if the proposed no confidence motion against the Speaker is admitted, added Dr Luwang.

The MPP MLA also predicted that the Congress will get a drubbing in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election and added that the NDA Government will come back to power at Delhi.

FPM president and convenor of the DPA Dr Chandramani said that earlier the DPA had maintained a studied silence over the killing of Lungnila Elizabeth as it did not want to politicise the issue.

However as it has now become clear important for the truth to come out, the DPA was constrained lo stage the dharna, he explained.

Chandramani said that Speaker TN Haokip, Works Minister Gaikhangam, TD Minister Ngamthang Haokip ought to resign on moral ground or else the Chief Minister should drop the two Ministers from his Council of Ministers.

The FPM president also said that it would be in the fitness of things if Francis Ngajokpa, who is Elizabeth's father resigns from the Ministry.

Mincing no words, former Chief Minister and MNC president W Nipamacha said that are grounds to believe that James Kuki was worker of Ngamthang Haokip.
