Buses vandalised for using Mayek number plates

Imphal, September 28: Two buses coming to Imphal were vandalised at a place in between Karong and Senapati by some unidentified persons at around 7.30 am today for using Meitei Mayek number plates.

According to information received by the press, the unidentified men coming in an auto rickshaw halted a tourist bus of Deep Travels (MN 01/1517) and broke its windscreen.

Windscreen of another tourist bus ( MN 01/1524) of the same travel agency was also damaged without even stopping the running vehicle.

However, there was no human casualty because of these incidents.

Some passengers conveyed of the unidentified men threatening to set ablaze vehicles if they find vehicles using Meitei Mayek in number plates any more.

It may recalled here that ANSAM had banned Manipuri films and songs in all Naga inhabited areas since Sep 17 besides prohibiting use of Meitei Mayek in number plates and other parts of all vehicles that ply through Naga inhabited areas.

Newmai News Network adds: Intensifying its campaign against Meitei Mayek in the Naga areas, the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has claimed to have damaged two tourist buses at Senapati today for defying the ANSAM directives.

The ANSAM said that it holds moral responsible for damaging two tourist buses plying along the NH-39 at Tahamzam (Senapati)today.

The vehicles were caught written with the Meitei Mayek on the number plates, stated ANSAM.
