Imphal, July 24: In connection with a demand note of Rs 10 lakhs, unidentified armed persons reportedly barged into the residence of propertior of Jemon Gas Kongkham Manglem at Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai last night and opened several rounds of gun fire.

One colour TV, three Godrej almirahs and the glass of a dressing table have been destroyed in the firing, the family members informed.

According to report, three unidentified gunmen barged into the house and opened fire at around 7.45 pm yesterday while Sobita, wife of Manglem, his mother Leibaklei, his sister-in-law Kiranbala and three kids were preparing to have their evening meal.

Recalling the incident, Kiranbala informed that when the three unidentified armed persons entered the house, they asked for the room of Manglem and demanded to know at what time he would come and leave.

When they informed that Manglem was not at home, the armed persons took all of them to the upper floor of the outshouse and kept them locked up in a room there.

After that they went inside the house and and opened fire inside every room.

After sometime, the armed persons came up to the upper room of the outhouse and threatened them not to inform anything about their coming to anyone.

The armed intruders also asked them to give a clarification within July 30.Otherwise, they would face dire consequences, Kiranbala said.

Before leaving the place, the armed persons also told the family members told not to come out from the room, Kiranbala said, while recalling that armed person who was asking them many questions was holding a large weapon as well as a small arm and put on acap and black leather jacket.

All the three the armed intruders looked like underground activists, she added.

On hearing the sound of gunfiring, the local Meira Paibis arrived and the frightened family members members were finally let out from the room where they were held captive.

Later on a police team also arrived at the scene of the crime.

In protest against the incident, Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup organised a Wakata Meepham at Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai today.
