Imphal, January 24: Forty three years old Thokchom Ongbi Indu, mother of Th Nando an accused in the Lungnila Elizabeth murder case succumbed to bum injuries which she sustained during a suspected suicide attempt last night, said sources.

According to reports, Nando's mother had attempted suicide last night by lighting herself after pouring kerosene on her body inside her room.

Following the incident she was immediately rushed to RIMS for medical treatment but succumbed to injuries this afternoon.

The body has been taken back by family members today.

The victim is reported to be the wife of Th Subol of Khangabok Part III Lamlong Leikai.

Mention may be made here that Nando was apprehended by State security forces from Thangal Bazar area on Nov 28.Police had remanded him under judicial custody after Nando confessed to his crime during interrogation.

Initially he was lodged in Imphal Central Jail but had to be transferred to Sajiwa Central Jail after some of the inmates brutally assaulted him inside the jail without the knowledge of the jail authorities.

Significantly, another accused identified as N Rome had also confessed that Nando was also involved in the brutal murder of Lungnila when the proscribed outfit UNLF produced him before medaipersons on Jan 6.Following the revelation of Nando's involvement in the murder case, infuriated locals had dismantled his house at Khangabok Jan 9 and also rusticated Nando and his family members from the locality as a punishment for involvement in the barbaric crime.

With no where to go, all the family members of Nando are presently staying at the residence of Subol's elder brother.
