Imphal, June 23: Claiming responsibility for the bomb attack at the residence of Outer MP Mani Charenamei, a spokesman of the NSCN (K) today informed the media that the attack was carried out by cadres of the Zeliangrong region of the outfit.

Speaking to newsman somewhere at Bishnupur district today, the spokesman said that the bomb attack was not launched against Charenamei as an MP but was done so as Charenamei is involved in formulating the policies and programmes of the IM group.

The spokesman also accused the MP of working against the NSCN (K) in cahoots with the IM group.

Even during the Lok Sabha election, Charenamei was supported by the IM group, he charged but that was in the past and the NSCN (K) had forgiven the past, he claimed.

But since Charenamei started working hands in gloves with the IM group against the interest of the NSCN (K), he was attacked not as an MP but as a representative of Muivah and Swu, added the spokesman.

Instead of working for the welfare of the Zeliangrong people, Charenamei has been encouraging the divide and rule policy of the Im group, he charged.

As the real identity of Charenamei has been exposed, now the NSCN (K) will take up all action against him in the same line as the action taken up against the IM group, he asserted.

To a question, the spokesman replied that the attack on Charenamei does not violate the cease fire between the GoI and the NSCN (K) as the attack was against a functionary of the IM group and not against a representative of the Indian Government.

The bomb attack was just the first warning and further action will be taken up against him, continued the spokesman.

In the course of any attack if the escort party of the MP suffer any casualties it should not be taken as an attack on the GoI but collateral damages suffered while attacking a man of the IM group, he reasoned.
