Imphal, January 23: The JAC formed in the wake of the 3 Assam Rifles gunning down one Sandham Raju at Salem Veng of Churachandpur district two days back, has refused to claim the body of the deceased as the meeting between a JAC team and the Chief Minister in-charge Th Debendra failed to break the impasse.

The JAC had been contending that Raju was an innocent civilian contrary to the AR authorities claiming the slain person was a KYKL activist who along with an accomplice was trying to disrupt the R-Day Celebration.

During the inclusive meeting held today, the JAC team is learnt to have demanded that State Govt institute a judicial enquiry to ascertain veracity of the AR claim; pull-up and punish personnel found guilty, if any; extent ex-gratia to the victim's family; and safeguard/protect civilians.

However, an agreement was reached for another meeting tomorrow, said JAC functionaries who also informed that Agriculture Minister N Mangi was also present at the meeting.

A statement issued by the JAC later today insisted that until and unless solution eludes on the issue Raju's body would not be taken.
