JAC demands punishment to cop killers

Imphal, February 22, 2010: The Joint Action committee (JAC) formed against the killing of Thomas L Kamei resolved at a meeting held today not to accept the dead body until proper enquiry is held in the killing incident, and the culprits involved in killing him are booked and befitting punishment awarded to those guilty.

Meanwhile, residents of Langol Lai Manai Ramgailong including the aggrieved family members of the deceased policeman Thomas L Kamei staged a sit-in-protest at the locality.

The JAC submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi and urged him for intervention and timely redressal.

The JAC refused to claim the dead body until its demands for proper enquiry and punishment to the culprit are fulfilled.

In the memorandum, the JAC demanded the government to unravel the mystery behind the brutal killing of Thomas L Kamei.

Anyone involved and found guilty must not be allowed to go scot free.

The memorandum demanded that the facts and circumstances leading to the crime be found out and revealed sooner than later.

The JAC also demanded that an enquiry should be conducted to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the brutal killing of Thomas L Kamei by appointing a gazetted officer not below the rank of DSP.

Three local youths namely Saumthaorei, PG Robert Kachakpuang and Samson Kamei detained by police should be released without any condition immediately, the JAC demanded in the memorandum.

The JAC also demanded that a government job should be provided to the next kin of the deceased and to look after the two daughters of the deceased.

It is worth mentioning that Thomas Kamei, a police constable of Tarung village, Langol was lynched on Sunday night at North AOC, Imphal following a clash among the policemen.

One sub inspector (SI) Subhash was also injured in the incident and currently undergoing treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
