Organisations appeal to Govt for relief material

Imphal, August 21: With flood affected people of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai living in a precarious conditions due to lack of drinking water and foodgrains and Government relief materials yet to be provided, Haoreibi Ideal Development Association drawing the attention of authorities concerned appealed for immediate provision of relief items to the people.

Similar complaints of negligence are received from individuals/organizations of Samurou, Lamlai and Khelakhong.

However, some organizations expressed gratitude to Ministers, individuals, and voluntary organizations for extending relief materials in cash and kinds to the affected families.

Relief camps are being set up at worst affected areas of Thoubal, Imphal East and West and Bishnupur districts with donations from individuals and organizations besides relief items supplied by Government and Ministers.

Fear of outbreak of water borne diseases also looms large in flood affected areas as well as in relief camps opened in Tentha Heibung, Hayel Hangul, Maibam Konjil and Thoubal Khunou.

Appeals for provision of seeds for re-plantation of paddy crops to affected fanners to prevent shortage of food grains also continue to flood in from several organizations.

In Heigrujam, Nongmaikhong and Karang villages water level continues to rise gradually inundating fresh areas.

In the meantime, Federal Party of Manipur, Lilong Kendra citing problems besetting the public of flood affected areas in Lilong assembly appealed to authorities concerned that the forthcoming panchayat elections be deferred until the situation improves for conducting the poll.
