Imphal, May 21 2010: MPCC chief, Gaikhangam today said that it would be wrong to impose indefinite blockade while registering protest against a government policy or programme.

Gaikhangam who was part of a team of ministers, MLAs going at Noney to convince the people there on the issues ahead of the state said that it is agreeable to launch in protest against a government policy or progamme.

But none will agree when the lifelines of the whole people are cut-off by imposing indefinite blockade.

It is against the law, he added.

The imposition of indefinite blockade on the highways is like crushing own neck by self, he said calling upon the people to stand united against those who indulge in breaking peace and tranquility of the people, Tribal Development minister, DD Thaisii who also part of the team said that any force could not prevent in the conduct of the elections to the district council in hill districts which government is efforting.

People should participate and elect the right person to be their representatives, he urged.

Thaisii also declared that the economic blockade imposing on the highways is unlawful.

People should teach them a lesson.

MLA I Hemochandra and Dr Kh Ratankumar were also part of the team who also attended a flag hoisting ceremony of a candidate of Congress in the upcoming ADC election in Tamenglong district.

Government spokesperson and IFCD minister, N Biren who led the team going there to convince the public on the suffering experiencing by the economic blockade on the NH-39 and NH-53, on seeing large gathering and response of the people to the call of the team said that the talk of blocking NH-53 turned out to be a rumour.

"I come to know that the blocking of the highway was a rumour today when he arrived here," Biren said.

NH-53 is among the important routes of the people of the state, he said appealing the people to co-operate with the government and take responsibility of save passage of vehicles on this route.
