Civilian hurt in commandos gun-fight

Imphal, January 20 2009: A civilian was wounded in a gun-fight that broke out among suspected police commandos in civvies at Wangkhei Angom Leikai under Porompat Police Station of Imphal East district at around 10 am today.

According to eyewitnesses, at first a tussle broke between two groups of suspected police commandos in civvies at Wangkhei Angom Leikai, on the western side of Wangkhei-Kongba Road.

One of the groups consisting two of them had come in a Getz car while the other group, also consisting two of them came on a motorbike.

After the tussle, the two groups were departing from each other when all of a sudden they took out their guns and opened fire at each other.

In the firing, 75-year old Thongam Thambou s/o late Ibomcha who was present at a nearby place was hit by a bullet on the right side of his buttock.

Thambou was in the verandah of his friend Keisham Kunjabi (72) when the incident took place and he has been admitted to the surgery ward of RIMS Hospital.

The gun-fight was brought under control when a team of Imphal East Police Commandos arrived.

Meanwhile, World United Youth Club, Wangkhei Angom Leikai has strongly condemned the incident.

Talking to mediapersons at RIMS, a chief functionaries of the Club informed that a complaint has been lodged with the SP of Imphal East district along with the request for providing immediate assistance to the injured victim.
