Imphal, November 18: Condemning yesterday's incident of killing president of All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) Hanif Shah by unidentified gunmen and causing injuries to president of United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation (UMMWDO) Anwari Nurjahan Begum alias Mema, a joint public meeting was held at Lilong Bazar today.

Meanwhile, the body of Hanif was today handed over to his bereaved family members for performing the last rite due to a deceased after post-mortem examination at RIMS mortuary today.

The meeting attended by vice president of UMMWDO Nuri and vice president of AMMSO Haji Mv Abdul Hamid and Haji Siraj Ahamed as presidium members, demanded an early explanation from all concerned organisations in connection with the incident and resolved to oppose any attempt to heave charges after killing a person.

Demanding an assurance from all concerned that any of the members of the civil organisations would not be targeted in future, the meeting also called upon the Government for taking up necessary measures like giving ex-gratia and ensuring security of life of the people.

Terming it as an act of cowardice, Khabeisoi Youth Library ad Sporting Association; Qaumi Awaz Idara, Khabeisoi and Saregam Artiste Union, Khabeisoi have also strongly condemned the killing of Hanif Shah and causing injuries to Anwari Nurjahan by unidentified gunmen.

The incident occurred while Hanif and Nurjahan were returning home from participating a seminar on the theme of role of Manipuri Muslims in fighting against the menace of drug abuse in Manipuri society organised by AMADA at Lilong Bazar yesterday.

Manipur University Muslim Students' Union (MUMSU) and Thambal Academy, Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai have also come out strongly against the action of the unknown gunmen and said killing of a social activist who dedicated his life for the welfare of the society was a great loss to all the people of Manipur.
