'Mysterious' blast rips apart two to death

Imphal, March 12: In a 'jarringly mysterious' explosion bodies of two persons were found close to the blast site at near Kamakhya Pemton College along the Hiyangthang to Irom Meijrao road and about four kilometres north of Wangoi police station in the early hours of today.

According to information culled from the incident site, locals heard a loud blast sound at around 8.10 pm yesterday.

As the inquisitive residents moved out from their homes this morning two badly mutilated corpses were found at near Kamakhya Pemton College which lies along the Irom Meijrao road.

While a small crater was created by the impact of the blast body of one of the two was discovered flung away about 15 feet from the actual blast spot with the right leg severed from the knee area.

The other body was found about 40 feet from the blast spot with the lower body parts completely severed and the skull area damaged extensively.

Body parts were also found scattered at a radius of about 400-500 feet in the nearby paddy fields.

Police personnel who arrived at the spot and launched searches managed to retrieve a cover of one Nokia handset, copper wire and tiny (cut) pieces of 6 mm iron rod.

The body parts of both the deceased have been deposited at RIMS morgue for necessary procedures.

Sources speculate the victims to be one Arambam Gunindro (35) s/o Sanajaoba of Langthabal Mantrikhong and Heisnam Meghachandra (25) s/o Ibomcha of Samurou Makha Leikai.

As per the findings of preliminary police investigation, Meghachandra is suspected to have been nearest to the explosive device as his body was found severely mutilated than the other victim.

On the otherhand, family members insisted that A Gunindro used to run an aluminium foundry at his residence and moved out from home last evening.

H Meghachandra is informed to be commercial vehicle (maruti van) operator.

In connection with the incident a JAC has been formed that organised hurriedly organised a sit-in-protest and refused to claim the bodies.

Meanwhile the Young Future Organisation in a statement said that Arambam Sanajao Meitei was a founder member of the organisation and added that he was running an aluminium foundry to support his family.

The organisation the death a murder urged the people concerned to clarify why he was done to death.

On the other hand the JAC formed agianst the killing of Heisnam Meghachandra, while maintaining that he was killed said that he was a van driver eking out a living to feed his family.

Asserting that he was an innocent man, the JAC said that it has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to resolve the matter, or else it would launch a series of agitation.

The demand of the JAC includes fitting action against the perpetrators of the crime and ex-gratia to the next of kins of the deceased.
