Imphal, February 12: Quoting the statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi that Nagas desirous of integrating with Nagaland may go there leaving behind the geographical area of Manipur, sitting MLA of Chandel A/C BD Behring remarked that any Naga casting vote in favour of Congress party led by O Ibobi would be tantamount to self-denying the identity of being a Naga.

Despite being an incumbent MLA, BD Behring is not contesting in the 9th Assembly elections as he was not among the consensus candidates sponsored by the United Naga Council (UNC).

Speaking at an election meeting of consensus candidate in Tengnoupal A/C W Morung Mokunga (Ind) Maring Sports complex at Kangsang village, Behring alleged that not a single development work was taken up in all the hill districts under the SPF Ministry.

Citing failure of the SPF Government to implement 6th Schedule in hill districts, non-disclosure of enquiry report in the Lungthulien rape case, demolition of church buildings, failure to deliver justice in the Lungnila Elizabeth case and its abject failure to rescue the two kids kidnapped from Senapati, BD Behring alleged that the SPF Government was not at all concerned for the welfare and interest of hill people.

Instead of casting votes in favour of Congress party who do not recognise the Naga issue, it's time to elect Naga candidates who identified themselves with the Naga cause so that a long term policy can be pursued more vigorously, he noted.

Representative of Naga Women's Union K Marigold said that the Union deemed it necessary to support the consensus candidates taking into account of the failure of Naga MLAs elected earlier on the promise to settle the Naga issue favourably.

Former president of ANSAM and a consensus candidate in Mao A/C Kho John said that it's time to launch a movement for a bright future of Nagas.

Addressing the gathering W Morung Mokunga said that earlier elections were fought with development and employment as main agenda.

But this time elections would be fought based on certain issues.

His foremost priority and most important agenda would be to find a solution to the vexed Naga issue.

Before the meeting, the candidate hoisted his own flag at Kangsang village.
