Imphal, July 11: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has decried the action of the IRB personnel on the innocent civilians at Senapati district on July 9.At this critical juncture, the action of the IRB personnel could have sparked off a major social upheaval, publicity secretary of AMUCO Tompok Likmabam said in a statement today.

The incident has also exposed the indiscipline and lack of knowledge on the part of the IRB personnel, the statement said.

Although the prompt action taken up by the State Government in this connection is appreciated, it would be desirable on the part of the State Government to institute a judicial inquiry and announce payment of compensation to the injured persons, the AMUCO statement observed.

The statement also flayed the Government for not taking seriously the suggestions made by Eminent Persons Group (EPG) during the discussion session held on July 3, which specifically pointed out that unscrupulous elements from either civil society or even irresponsible official agencies may try to fish in troubled water at unguarded members.

AMUCO further said that the message jointly issued by AMSU, DESAM and MSF recently appealing to all the people to restrain from taking up any steps which might be detrimental to fraternal ties between the hill and valley despite provocation from certain quarters is commendable.
