Imphal, June 08 2010: Around 580 vehicles, both heading for outside the state and Imphal bound are stranded along the National Highway-53 in Manipur on Tuesday due to the road blocks caused by the boulders that slided down following heavy down pour in the state during the last few days.

The blockade, this time it is a natural and occurred between Jiribam and Nungdolan last night.

Following the cut off, atleast 80 vehicles are stuck in between Nungdolan and Barak river, 200 vehicles including 4 inter-state passenger buses heading outside the state were trapped while around 300 vehicles transporting essential commodities bound for Imphal are stranded at Jiribam today, according to official source.

The National Highway-53 stretch, a distance of 221 kms.

from Imphal to Jiribam has been in used for transporting essential commodities and for ferrying passengers as an optional route, added the source.
