Imphal, May 08: After deliberating at length on recruitment of Special Police Officers (SPOs) and provision of guns for self-defence, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has failed to come up with any resolution.

However, the party has conveyed its stance to resolve the problem of insurgency through political means.

A meeting of MPP office bearers and special invitees was held today at its office to discuss the issuing of arms to people of Heirok and Chajing with its president Dr L Chandramani in the chair.

Briefing media persons after the meeting, Dr Chandramani said that even as the party has discussed the matter minutely, the party thinks it necessary for further deliberation.

However, MPP has a clear cut stance on the issue of insurgency that it should be resolved through political means and peaceful dialogue, he stated while maintaining that insurgency can never be subdued by military means.

On being asked about putting up the matter of issuing arms to the people in the SPF's Government's Steering Committee meeting after the Cabinet had already declared its decision on the matter, the MPP president refused to make any comment.

"Let the people of Manipur decide what is positive and what is negative", Dr Chandramani said.

However, the Government's decision to issue guns to the people of Heirok and Chajing and subsequent objections raised by the people of Manipur will be deliberated further and MPP would declare its decision to the public, added the MPP president.

Today's meeting also discussed on different policies and programmes that may be taken up to re-organise the party.
