Chandel, February 08: Naga National Party candidate in Chandel constituency, Kopu Chandramani has pledged to support the 'consensus' of the people in the interest of all.

In a written undertaking, the NNP candidate said that though he has not withdrawn from the fray he will fully support the candidacy of the consensus candidate nominated by the people.

The other Naga candidate left in the fray in this constituency is now BD Behring Anal of the BJP.

Meanwhile BJP candidate BD Behring submitted a memorandum to Union MoS for Home ID Swami during his visit to the district.

In the memorandum Behring highlighted the backwardness of Chandel and said that the opening of the international trade centre at Moreh has not benefited Chandel one bit.

He also called for the construction of a pucca road from Chandel to Ukhrul, Chandel to Moreh via Thangbung, Chandel to Churachandpur via Chakpikarong and Chakpikarong to New Samtal.

The memorandum also urged Swami to take full initiative in expediting the peace talk in order to bring an honorable solution to the decades old Naga problem.

Behring also urged the Minister to initiate peace talks with the other underground outfits of the North East.

Stating there is disparity in the distribution of Assembly seats, Behring urged Swami to increase the number of MLAs in Chandel from two to three.
