Imphal, June 06 2010: The counting of votes for the District Council election which was earlier fixed on June 7 (Monday) for the District Council Election, 2010 has been postponed by an order of the State Election Commission issued on Saturday.

The counting has been postponed in view of incomplete conduct of the polls in respect of some polling stations of Churachandpur, Tamenglong and Ukhrul District Councils, the order issued by the secretary, Th Chitra Devi of State Election Commission stated.

With the announcement of re-poll on June 11 and 16, district election offices have also started preparation for the same in their respective districts.

District Electoral Officer (DEO) of Tamenglong district has asked polling personnel who have been given assignments to report immediately to the DEO.

Re-poll will be held in 155 polling stations in Tamenglong district where polling could not be completed on June 2 owing to various disturbances like unable to reach the poll personnel to their respective stations and booth capturing at some other polling stations.

In Ukhrul district, re-poll will be held in one polling station, 23/8K Leihaoram Primary school under Kasom Khullen District Council Constituency of Ukhrul Autonomous District of Ukhrul tomorrow (June 7).The re-poll in the said station necessitated as ballot papers being burnt by miscreants on June 2 last.
