Imphal, June 06: Opposition DPA has re-affirmed its pledge to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Addressing a press conference at the Babupara official residence of FPM MLA L Tomba today, DPA convenor Dr L Chandramani said although the Opposition DPA welcomes the ongoing peace parleys between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) for ushering in peace and development in the North East region it should not be done at the cost of territorial integrity of Manipur.

Dr Chandramani recalled that the Centre had to retract its step and confine the ceasefire signed with the NSCN (IM) within Nagaland itself following strong pressure from the people of Manipur.

In such condition, the recent report of existence of a designated camp of the Nag rebel outfit at Marao in Ukhrul district was rather perplexing.

How could there be a designated camp in Manipur when the State does not come within the jurisdiction of the ceasefire, Dr Chandramani questioned.

He also demanded a clarification on this matter from the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre s well as from SPF Government at the State.

Every political party in the State have vowed to protect the territorial boundary of Manipur in their manifesto and Congress came to power on this election mantra, he pointed.

Dr Chandramani observed that the apprehension in the mind of the people with regard to territorial integrity could be settled once and for all with amendment of Article III of the Constitution which gives additional power to the Centre.

The Opposition leader further asserted if the allegation that two Cabinet Ministers and some other MLAs put their signatures on the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister endorsing integration of all Naga inhabited area is correct, they would be dropped from the Ministry.

Action should also be taken up against them for the alleged anti-party activities, he maintained.
