Imphal, May 06: While the 14th Lok Sabha election has come and gone and is now a distant memory for most people of Lamka, the same cannot be said for Churachandpur Government High School, IB Road, and its 350 odd students as their school was closed down since the start of the election process and will be reopened only after counting of votes is finished.

The school, one of the most promising Government schools in Churachandpur district, is having a forced holiday for almost a month now as it is being used as a counting centre for the six Assembly segments within Chura-chandpur district.

According to the Head Master of the School, L Ginkhojam, they are losing about 25 working days as a result of this election even as the school building is being refurbished and repaired for the purpose.

This surely, is a great loss for the students who are being forced to idle around during all this time.

With summer vacation waiting round the corner, it is regrettable that the students, who are mostly from poor families and cannot afford to take private tuitions, should have to suffer like this for none of their fault, he said.

Most of the benches and desks of the school have also been carried down and are being used at the DC office complex where all the EVMs are housed.

Some parents also raised questions on how the Government can say that it is serious about improving its schools while it just turn a blind eye to the plight of the students who just waste their time away and looked on helplessly at their friends who are busy taking classes.
