Imphal, March 05: Infuriated locals of Sora launched a wildcat agitation today by blocking the Indo-Burma (Myanmar) road from Sora Koijam Lamkhai till Kakching Lamkhai to protest arrest of three persons including principal (mohatamim) of Madrasa Jamia Rahmania by Thoubal police commandos who allegedly defiled religious sanctity while effecting the arrests.

According to information gathered from the spot, the three identified as 45-year-old Md Moulana Abdul Haq (principal) of Sora Makha Leikai, md Abdul Ajiz (55) of Sora Makha Leikai and Md Islauddin (58) of Sora Awang Leikai were picked up by the commando personnel at around 2.30 am today from their respective homes.

In connection with the arrest, former Member of Pallel Zila Parishad Nurnganbi and meira paibi activist Itabi approached SP (Thoubal) in the early morning who reportedly told them to stay with their husbands working in Central security forces as more arrest and intensive searches would be conducted at Sora areas.

Shortly after the women left the police station Sora locals resorted to road blockade from around 8 am which was, however, suspended in between 10 to 12 noon after the SP pacified the agitators.

The agitation was re-enforced shortly after mid-day in protest against non-release of all the three individuals.

During the protest period a Maruti Van and a 407 Canter were damaged by the protestors while vehicles coming from Moreh side were diverted towards Mayai Lambi from Kakching Lamkhai point with traffic diversion effected from Thoubal Patpan area for those coming from Imphal side.

As per comments of Moulana Abdul who was set free at around 8 am and Md Abdul Ajiz released at around 2.30 pm police pounded them with questions regarding the banned PULF outfit but were not subjected to any physical atrocities.

Till late in the evening protest meetings were held at Sora Bazar where resolution was adopted to persist with the road blockade agitation till the third person - Md Islauddin is released.
