Imphal, August 28: A suspected PLA cadre said to be Division V commander of the proscribed PLA was killed in an encounter with troops of 32 Assam Rifles and 39 Assam Rifles at about 11 pm yesterday.

The reported encounter took place at Heingangkhong under Heingang police station.

One country made pistol, three live rounds, three empty cases of AK ammunition and three empty cases of 9 mm ammunition were recovered from the spot.

The slain cadre has been identified as Huidrom Somendro alias Chinglemba alias Jack (27) s/o H Ibomcha of Kakching Khunou Thongam.

The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS this afternoon.

According to police sources, the AR troops were patrolling in Heingang area in the night of August 27 .

But they were fired upon as they approached Heingangkhong from armed persons who were laying in ambush.

The AR troops immediately retaliated resulting in a shoot-out which lasted for about 10 minutes.

After the encounter, the AR troops conducted a search operation during which an individual said to be commander of the PLA's Division V was found dead, added the police source.
