Imphal, March 26: With the stated objective of giving a crushing defeat to both the BJP and the Congress, CPM is all set to support the CPI candidate Dr M Nara Singh in the upcoming 14th Lok Sabha election.

The decision to support Nara, who has been fielded in the Inner seat was taken during a meeting of CPM's Manipur State Committee yesterday, said Meitram Shamu secretary State Committee at a press conference held at the party's office this afternoon.

Whether the party would go together during the election campaign with the CPI or support indirectly would be decided in another meeting of the party, he said adding that suggestions from its State, dist and local level committee members are being invited.

"We have not yet decided on whom to support for the Outer seat" he said adding that the party's stance is to keep distance from BJP and the Congress".

The party will wait and watch the filing of nomination papers and act accordingly, he said.

On being asked why CPI has fielded its candidate only in the Inner seat, Shamu replied that the organizational structure of the party is weak and therefore the party is unable to field candidates in both the seats.

"We also don't want to issue the party ticket to any individual only on the basis of his popularity and wealth" Shamu said adding that in the future the party will field candidates from amongst its cadres who stick to the ideology of the party.

Members of the party would minutely observe the conducts of various candidates in terms of spending money during the poll campaign; he said adding that they would complain to the Election Commission if any candidate is found spending more than Rs 22 lakhs, the rate fixed by the Commission.

The CPI had decided to field Dr Nara in the Inner Constituency after the Congress; its partner in the SPF downed the proposal to support the CPI candidate while the Communist would leave the Outer turf free to the Congress.
