Teens among 3 killed, SF posts attacked

Imphal, November 25: In unrelated violent incidents two Muslim teenagers and a suspected armed activist have been slain even as two posts of the Assam Rifles came under attack today.

Bodies of the Muslim youngsters hailing from Keirao Makting Major Ingkhol identified as md Abdul alias Sotabhai (13) s/o Md Siddique and md Abdul Rajak alias Inao pikpi (11) s/o Janab Ali were recovered with multiple bullet wound marks from Keirao Makting Maning Loubuk (paddy field) this morning.

Police sources speculated the victims' age to be 18 and 15 years respectively.

According to family members both left their respective homes together at around 4 pm yesterday and they heard 3-4 gunshots at regular intervals in between 6.30 and 8 pm.

with the family members having endured a restless night due to the duo's absence, their worst fear were confirmed at the break of dawn when some locals found their bodies lying in the paddy field.

suspecting foul play a JAC was formed in connection with the double murder and a meeting hurriedly convened wherein resolutions were adopted to approach the Government probe and arrest perpetrator/s of the criminal act and not to claim the corpses until and unless those involved in the ghastly act are apprehended.

While setting November 28 as the deadline to produce the killer/s, the meeting also decided to launch various forms of agitation against the Government in case of failure to live upto the people's expectation.

However, later in the evening a six member JAC team apprised the matter to the Chief Minister wherein an understanding was reportedly reached for claiming the bodies tomorrow on completion of post mortem.

The Chief Minister is also informed to have assured the JAC delegation that Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East district would be consulted regarding financial assistance to the victims' families.

In the other incidents of the day, troops of 7 Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected underground cadre at Borayangbi which is about 8-9 kilometres south east of Kumbi police station in Bishnupur district.

confirming the incident, Col Rajesh Mishra of PIB (DW) said an encounter took place in the wee hours today with the paramilitary force team recovering one 9 mm pistol and two live rounds from the deceased.

He further conveyed that an Assam Rifles post located in Singhat of Churachandpur district was attacked by suspected militants consequently resulting in the AR personnel retaliating.

There is no casualty on the security side.

Another post of the security force (34 AR) in Yairipok also came under rocket attack reportedly launched by two motorcycle borne youths at around 11 am today.

The rocket however missed its intended target and exploded at a distance.

The AR men of the post resorted to firing which led to the youths scurrying away from the scene.
