Commandos scalp one UG suspect

Imphal, July 24: A suspected underground cadre was killed in a reported encounter with Imphal West district police commandos at Lamdeng hills under Lamsang police station this afternoon.

One 9 mm pistol and four live rounds were recovered from the possession of the slain cadre, informed a police source.

On the other hand, NH-53 was blocked for sometime at Tera in protest against the killing of an individual by a combined force of Imphal East commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles near Ng Mani College, Khurai Chairenthong last night.

Suspected to be a cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC), the slain individual has been identified as one Pebam Bonin (29) s/o Premchand of Tera Tongbram Leikai.

According to Ibemhal Devi, mother of the deceased, Bonin was a teacher in Child Development Centre, Naoremthong, a school for disabled children.

She further denied her son having any relation with any UG group.

"Even if Bonin was suspected to be having links with any UG group, cannot they (security forces) arrest him instead of eliminating him ?", she asked.

Saying that Bonin sometimes used to stay at RIMS Type II quarter, family members informed that he left home last morning.

Bonin's mother Ibemhal is also an attendant at RIMS.

Meanwhile, one of the two slain by Imphal West commandos in July 20 night who remained unidentified has been identified as one Loukrakpam Navy (22) s/o Tomba of Irom Meijrao.

After identifying the deceased, family members claimed the corpse of Navy after completion of post mortem examination at RIMS today.

The corpse of Ningombam Khogen (43) of Ithai Barrage, killed in the same incident, had already been claimed by family members.

The identity of the youth shot dead by Imphal West commandos on the same day (July 20) at Khuman Lampak Sports complex has also been established as one Ningthoujam Tiken (24) sof Khordak Awang Leikai.

He left home in the afternoon of July 18 after putting up nets in a local pond.
