Sisters assaulted, woman dead

Imphal, November 22: Two sisters were not only assaulted severely but also attacked with knives by some persons allegedly led by one Md Alim at a spot in between Sora hills and Langthabal Khunou under Kakching police station at about 7 pm yesterday.

The two sisters identified as Hidam ongbi Inaobi (39) and Samulailatpam Premila (27) of Langthabal Khunou are being treated at RIMS.

They were assaulted by Md Alim and his cohorts when they were returning home after selling banana at Singjamei.

The two sisters were thrashed severely before they were assaulted with a knife.

Even as H Inaobi managed to evade the attack, Premila sustained severe injuries in the right hand as she tried to shield her body with the hand.

She underwent stitches at 7/8 spots on her right hand.

It is reported that Md Alim used to tease women with indecent words through mobile phones.

Inaobi lost Rs 4,600 and Premila Rs 6000 in yesterday's incident.

Woman found dead : An aged woman was found dead at a spot along Nambul river bank in between Isok and Naorem under Nambol police station this morning.

The deceased woman is identified as Laishram Rajni (86) of Nambol Kongkham.

It is reported that she has been missing since she left home in the morning of November 20.However, police did not register any case as the family ruled out possibility of any foul play in the death.

One killed in mishap : A cyclist hit by a motorcycle (Pulsar, no MN01-N/1861) near Pourabi Lamjing Meira School under Lamlai police station at about 2 pm yesterday succumbed to injuries at JN Hospital last midnight.

The deceased is identified as Thangjam Birkumar (66) of Keibi Makha Leikai.

The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS.

The motorcycle rider identified as Takhellambam Boton (22) of Itham Nungoi also sustained injuries and is being treated.
