Two UGs killed at Ukhrul

Imphal, September 22: Troops of 12 AR killed a suspected UG cadre in an ambush launched at near Kasong area in Ukhrul district along Indo-Myanmar border yesterday.

According to a press release issued by PRO of IGAR(S), based on specific information the troops laid ambushes at multiple locations.

In the meantime, a person crossed the border and approached an ambush site at around 10.45 pm, said the release and added that on being challenged, the person opened fire and was killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

One G-3 rifle with a magazine, two GCCs of G-3 rifle and eight live rounds were recovered from the slain person.

The corpse has been handed over to Kasom Khulen police Station, added the release.

In another incident, acting on a tip-off, Thoubal district police commandos conducted a search operation on the intervening night of September 21 and 22 at Tentha Khunjao Mayai Leikai.

At around 12.45 am, two/three suspected armed militants ran out from a house and tried to escape towards the western side.

In the retaliatory firing which lasted about 10 minutes, one unidentified UG cadre was killed at the spot while the others managed to escape in the dark.

One AK-56 rifle, one magazine loaded with 11 rounds of live AK ammunition and seven empty cases of AK ammunition were recovered from the slain cadre, said statement issued by the SP of Thoubal police Clay Khongsai today.
