Imphal, July 21: Even as the ANSAM sponsored economic blockade has taken an ugly turn with the dismantling of Irang bridge in Tamenglong district yesterday, several bodies have joined the cries to lift the blockade taking into account the plight of the common people.

Imphal branch of Peace Sponsoring Society (Khunthak, Ukhrul district) called for a dialogue between the State Government and ANSAM to end the crisis.

If groups/persons responsible for the current blockade do not take initiatives to solve the current problems faced by the public due to imposition of blockade 'God will judge such leaders, organisations accordingly and misery will befall on them and the land', said a Society release.

Stressing that cooperation is the only way to herald prosperity and tranquility in Manipur, the body said people desiring and believing in peace and truth in the entire North East region far outnumbers people propagating violence.

It also quoted the global principle of truth always triumphing over evil forces while reiterating its appeal for ending the blockade before it creates enmity in the society.

Highlighting 'manifold' suffering of both the valley and hill people, Archbishop's House, Imphal, on behalf of Catholic Church in Manipur fervently appealed to the State Govt and ANSAM to settle the present impasse without further delay.

"We fervently pray to the Almighty that wisdom and good-will may prevail in the hearts of all concerned so that the sufferings of the people may be alleviated and we all may live in peace and harmony," said a press statement issued by Rev Joseph Mittathany.

Mooting that the time has come for ANSAM to review its stand as the agitation has taken its toll on the general public, United Clubs Organisation, Leimapokpam observed that neither should any criteria be set in respecting the sacrifices of martyrs nor should honouring them be misinterpreted.
