Imphal, November 20: The Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has urged Governor Dr SS Sidhu to intervene in the current fluid law and order situation and take necessary measures to ensure stability and good governance in the State.

"I along with the four legislators of the party O Joy Singh, Ng Bijoy Singh, Ibolhanbi Singh and Rajkumar Anand called on the Governor at Raj Bhawan this morning and apprised him the of state of lawlessness besetting Manipur since the last few weeks", said Dr L Chandramani Singh, president of the MPP while addressing a media conference today.

"Since the Congress achieved an absolute majority of 31 seats in the sixty member Assembly in the last Assembly election we thought that there would be a stable Government in the State but on the contrary the law and order has gone from bad to worst", he remarked.

"We have witnessed killing of several innocent people including women, abduction of senior State officials and attacks on the private residences of officials and VIPs but the Government is still keeping mum", he lamented.

In such a situation the MPP cannot remain silent for which the party urged the Governor to act accordingly and take up necessary action, said the MPP president.

When killings have become routine affairs, there is no value of human lives and the people have no security and instead of addressing it the ruling Congress MLAs are more keen on grabbing powers themselves, charged the MPP leader.

The MPP has nothing to do with the tussle within the Congress party, but when it affects the rule of law and public order then "we cannot stay calm", he said.

"Though the Governor did not give an explicit reply on the matter we hope he would do the needful", Chandramani, also a former deputy CM said adding that MPP stands for Manipur.

MPP legislature wing leader O Joy Singh iterated "we did not ask the Governor to recommend President Rule.

We only urged him to take serious note of the matter and take necessary measures".

Ng Bijoy Singh charged that the Congress legislators, instead of working for the overall aspirations of the people for all round development and maintain law and order, are more interested in grabbing powers and cited the camp set up at at New Delhi by some rebel MLAs.
