IW Cdos eliminate two UG suspects

Imphal, July 18: Two suspected rebels were shot dead by a team of Imphal West police commandos during a reported encounter at Tera Sadokpam under Lamphel police station today at about 1.50 pm.

One grenade, a .32 pistol, one magazine, two live bullets and one cartridges were found from the site of the encounter.

According to police sources, a team of Imphal West police commandos rushed to Sadokpam on receipt of specific inputs.

As the team reached Sadokpam, they came across three youths coming on a Pulsar motorcyle.

When the police signalled them to stop, the three sped away prompting the commandos to go after them.

Even as a hot chase was underway, the two pillion drivers jumped down from the Pulsar and opened fire towards the police commandos, said police sources.

An encounter ensued therafter leading to the death of the two UG suspects.

Police recovered one hand grenade along with one detonator, one .32 pistol, one magazine and two live bullets.

One spent cartridge was also found at the site of the encounter.

The identities of the two deceased are yet to be established and the bodies have been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem and identification.

House burnt down : In yet another instance of mob violence, an enraged mob burnt down the house of an accused person at Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai under Police Station at around 2 pm today.

According to police, the house of the accused identified as Khagembam Amrita Singh (35) s/o Indrajit was burnt down by the enraged local people in connection with the recovery of the body of one Thokchom Rameshwar (21) of the same locality after both of them had gone out together on July 15 .

Police said that Amrita and Rameshwar had gone out together for Imphal on a two-wheeler at around 9.30 am of July 15 .

However, in the evening Amrita returned without Rameshwar and handed over the mobile phone that Rameshwar had carried from home to his family members.

Since then whereabouts of Rameshwar had not been known.

It was only today morning that the family members of Rameshwar came to know that the body of an unidentified person reportedly found shot dead at a place under Mayang Imphal Police Station on the intervening night of July 16 and 17 was that of Rameshwar.

The family members have gone to check the body lying at the mortuary of RIMS after being picked up by the police.
