Imphal, December 17: Director General of Police Yumnam Joykumar has stated that State forces have taken up all necessary measures to effect arrest of those who were responsible for the blast at Pourabi yesterday evening.

RPF/PLA has claimed responsibility for the blast along the Imphal-Pukhao road ripping through a running mini bus killing seven passengers including four women and wounding many others.

Addressing a press conference here today, the DGP said 'I have visited the blast site and asked SP concerned to speed up investigation process to effect arrest of the perpetrators.

Some locals who witnessed suspected youths kneeling on the road side and appearing to make phone call on their mobiles before the explosion would also be quizzed'.

Stating that the blast site locates in a area where security sensitization is less, he emphasised on public assistance and alertness in preventing subversive activities of the militants.

'Public should immediately inform the police when they see any unusual activities', the DGP said, adding 'though we have geared up our intelligence networking, the police and other security forces cannot be deployed round the clock on the roads to detect planting of bombs'.

Nonetheless, he informed that the security has been beefed up in and around the capital.

'It is owing to our intelligence expertise that the police have been able to kill and arrest quite a number of underground activists in the last two or three months', the DGP said.
