Imphal, October 16 2009: Along with the call of titular king of Manipur for imbuing spiritual knowledge among the young students, the annual children camp cum sports meet of Model English School, Sanakeithei in Ukhrul district has begun from today.

Inaugurating the annual event of the school as chief guest, titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba observed that imbuing spiritual knowledge among the children from a tender age would ensure communal harmony and peace in the society.

Expressing happiness that Sanakeithei is the only place where people of various communities including Nagas, Kukis, Meiteis, Nepalis are co-existing in mutual co-existence, the titular king pointed out that mutual distrust and narrow parochial outlook is at root cause of disunity among the people of Manipur.

He called upon the people of Sanakeithei to ensure that their children grow up in an environment where there is no mutual distrust and narrow-mindedness.

Touching upon the existing education scenario in the State, the titular king noted that the better performance of the private schools in examination in comparison to the Government schools is due to the dedication of the teachers inspite of the meagre salary being received.

In his presidential address, principal of the school Khamaran observed that the Model English School has been established not with an eye earning profit but to mould the character of the students through proper education.

Among the dedicated teachers of the school, there are also five of them from the valley, he informed, adding that spiritual education is one of the main emphasis of the school.

Chairman of the school managing board who attended the function as guest of honour also spoke dwelling on the blood relation between the Meiteis and the Tangkhuls as well as on the history of Sanakeithei village.

Chief of the village, other elders and local pastor also graced the dais of the inaugural function of the two-day long annual children camp cum sports meet of the school which came alive to the traditional fashion parade of various communities and presentation of dances and songs by students.

On the second day tomorrow, sporting events like football, volleyball, tug of war, etc and literary competition like quiz would be organised and prizes would be distributed among the winners.
