JAC for Kamei demands justice, ex-gratia

Imphal, April 15: The JAC Against the Killing of Late Master Gaithaukhuanpou Kamei has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the arrest the culprits involved in the murder and to punish them according to law.

Gaithaukhuanpou Kamei (16) s/o Gaikhanglung Kamei of Nungba Hqs was brutally murdered in the night of April 13 before dumping the lifeless body at a spot about a kilometre away from Nungba Bazar by some unidentified persons.

The corpse was found lying by the highway in the next morning, mentioned the memorandum.

The JAC while asking the Government to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased, maintained that expenditure for customary funeral of the deceased should be borne by the offending party.

It further stated that the corpse of the deceased will not be claimed until and unless the demands of the JAC are met.

Rather, intense forms of agitation will be launched from 6 am of April 17 in collaboration with various NGOs and civil societies, it stated.

By oversight, it was reported in this paper on April 14 issue that the corpse of Gaithaukhuanpou Kamei has been claimed by family members, it shoud be read as the corpse has been brought to RIMS mortuary.
