JAC against the killing of Apik; Intense agitation threatened

Imphal, September 09: The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Thokchom Apik of Heirok Part-II Thokchom Leikai has warned of intensifying its agitation if Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh fails to give a written assurance on implementing its demands.

Talking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club here this evening, general secretary of the JAC Th Noren informed that the proposed meeting with the Chief Minister today has been rescheduled tomorrow.

However, if no solution could be brought about during the meeting then the JAC would intensify its agitation without any delay.

The JAC reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister yesterday highlighting its demands.

Consequently, a meeting was scheduled to be held today morning to discuss the demands of the JAC.

But it was postponed till afternoon only to be told afterward that the meeting has been rescheduled tomorrow, Noren said, while decrying the attitude of the Chief Minister.

Police claimed that Apik was killed during a shoot out with Imphal West Police Commandos on the night of September 6 at Maibam Lotpa Ching which the JAC has contradicted.

In its memorandum, the JAC asserted that Apik was an innocent person and the police commandos involved in the killing should be terminated from service.

Demanding payment of Rs 5 lakhs as exgratia to the family members of Apik, the JAC had also made it clear it would take recourse to various intense agitation.
