Imphal, April 06 2010: Manipur People's Party (MPP) would not participate in the upcoming ADC election if the Govt is going to force the elections on the people of the State particularly those living in the hill districts, party president Dr Nimaichand Luwang has announced.

Talking to mediapersons today, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that after more than 20 years, it would not be advisable to hold the election without the consent of the people.

Demanding amendment of Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act, 1971 (Amendment, 2008) on the ground that it does not provide financial, judiciary and legislative power, intense agitations are currently being launched in the hill districts of the State and the copies of the Act consigned to flames.

Dr Nimaichand further said that to ensure peaceful conduct of the election, the consent of every section of the society and all the political parties should be sought first.

Imposition of the election on the people just because it is in power would not auger well and would invite only more problem.

All the pros and cons should be considered first before going ahead with the election, Dr Nimaichand said, while making it clear that MPP would stay away from such imposed election.
