Imphal, February 06: A hand grenade that was reportedly planted by some unknown persons at the residence of an Executive Engineer of Electricity Department at Moirangkampu Sajeb under Porompat police station was retrieved by the bomb experts at around 12.30 pm today and later detonated safely at the nearby paddy field.

The grenade retrieved from the residence of EE identified as Soubam Premanand who is currently posted at Tamenglong was detonated successfully at around 2.30 pm today.

In protest against the incident, around 700 local Meira Paibis took out a rally from Moirangkampu Sajeb Laiharaobam Lampak to Lamlong Bazar later during the day.

The protestors shouted slogans decrying planting of bombs in public places.

In another incident, unidentified gunmen reportedly fired some rounds at the residence of one PHED Assistant Engineer at Bamon Leikai Mange Makhong at around 7.30 pm yesterday.

One found dead : The body of a non-Manipuri who died at RIMS Hospital where he was admitted to the medicine ward bed no.3 in RIMS Hospital for treatment of liver cirrhosis at around 11.30 am today has been picked up and deposited at the mortuary of the Hospital since no family members have come to claimed the same.

The deceased person identified as Ramesh alias Rambrish is said to be one of the labourers engaged in construction work of the canteen of RIMS boys hostel.

He was reportedly admitted to the medicine ward on January 29 .

Corpse handed over : As nobody has claimed the body of a suspected non-Manipuri who was found dead at Leimakhong Chingmang bus waiting shed under Sekmai police station on February 1, the same has been handed over to Imphal Municipality for disposal after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary today.

Six hurt in mishap : Six passengers of a 407 mini Tata including women sustained injuries when the vehicle skidded off its path and fell to a paddy field, about 20 feet below at about 11.30 am today.

The mishap occurred near Mata village along Singhat road under Churachandpur PS.
