Imphal, August 03: Two suspected UG cadres were slain in a reported encounter with troops of 7 Assam Rifles at Ithai Wapokpi under Kumbi police station at about 3.45 pm today.

One 9 mm pistol with nine live rounds and a 7.65 pistol with two live rounds were recovered from the posses sion of the slain cadres.

Police have picked up the corpses and deposited the same at Kumbi PS.

In a statement, PRO of ! PIB (Defence Wing) said that troops of 7 Assam Rifles under 57 Mountain Division were pressed into r service in the general area of Wapokpi on receiving spe wo UG specific information.

As the troops were moving along Kumbi-Wapokpi road they came under fire from the direction of the banks of Khuga river, said the PRO and added that in the ensuimg gun fight, two millitants were killed.

Fol1ow up search led to the recovery of two pistols including one US made Colt pistol along with 11 live ammunition and some fired cases.
