Imphal, September 30 2009: Vehicular traffic along Imphal-Moreh Road (National Highway 39) from Langthabal Kunja to Lilong remained suspended for some hours in the morning today following detection of a powerful remote controlled IED planted by unidentified armed persons.

According to police, the bomb was first detected on the western road side of the highway at a spot between two places commonly known as Meitei Lamkhai and Hao Lamkhai by the commuters.

On receiving the report, personnel of Singjamei PS rushed in and cordoned off the area blocking the traffic on either side of the road from Langthabal Kunja and Lilong.

At around 8.45 am, bomb experts of the State Police Dept arrived and removed the explosive.

After detonation of the bomb safely, traffic along the route was resumed.

One of the bomb experts informed that the IED was remote controlled and was fitted with two antennas and batteries.

It maybe recalled here that on the night of September 12 and 22 as well, similar explosives have been found planted along the said National Highway stretch at Lilong Chajing Mamang Leikai and Lilong Chajing turning respectively.
