Imphal, February 28: Pursuing the demand for the unconditional release of maibam naobi Chanu from police custody mass sit-in-protests would be held at various places of the State from tomorrow onwards, informed a JAC release.

While appreciating the overwhelming response from various quarters to the JACs general strike call against the detention yesterday, the body formed to take the issue to its logical end strongly condemned personnel of police commandos alleged threa- tening and intimidating members of the JAC.

It also took serious note of the State authorities for insisting that Naobis parents/guardians secure the girls bail which is akin to making a mockery of public sentiments which had been demanding her unconditional release.

Denying access to naobis parents shortly after her arrest/detention and insistence on bail after levelling various manufactured charges with no other intention other than subdue the public movement on the issue cannot deviate the peoples determination to take the matter to its logical end, asserted the JAC while iterating that the agitation will continue till the issue is settled favourably.

Meanwhile, expressing extreme displeasure against the police commandos for detaining Maibam naobi Chanu of Yairipok Leirongthel in connection with the PLA attack on Thoubal commando OC N Lokhon and his security colleagues the Manipuri Students Federation terming the action as illogical has threatened to launch various form of agitation.

Taking into account interests of the students who are to appear in HSSLC and HSLC examinations starting from tomorrow the first phase agitation would commence with the candidates of these exams as well as other students wearing black badge from tomorrow onwards, informed the student body and urged cooperation from other student bodies, NGOs and voluntary organisations of the State.

Informing that Naobi Chanu is currently pursuing Masters degree in English through the IGNOU in Manipur university in addition to serving as a teacher in a private educational institute, MSF decried arrest and detention of the girl on ground that she is known to PLA cadre Bikash who committed suicide after the attack against N Lokhon and his team.

Detaining a person on such ground clearly suggest that shopkeepers dealing in garments, hotel owners and passenger bus operators are also liable to face legal prosecution as connectivity of these entities with activists of underground outfits at some point of time cannot be ruled out, said the MSF.

It also pointed out that similar punitive action need to be initiated against the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who not only hails and got elected from the same assembly constituency as the slain PLA cadre reside, but there is high possibility ibobi could have sought votes from Bikashs family as well during election campaign.
