Slain person identified as MR man

Imphal, March 28: The person who was shot dead by police commandos in DM College campus here last night was a Rifleman of 2nd Bn Manipur Rifles.

It is alleged that he was picked up by the commandos in front of his wife.

The deceased is identified as Maisnam Amuba (42) s/o late Nimai of Ngaikhong Khunou but staying in 2nd MR complex with his family.

A former cadre of the UNLF, Amuba had been in 1st Bn MR, 2nd Bn MR and 1st IRB as Rifleman after he surrendered to the Government.

Four months back he was posted to 2nd Bn MR under Rifleman number 0197015. He left behind a son and three daughters.

His wife is also in an advanced stage of pregnancy.

As his wife complained of some health problem, Amuba was coming out on a Honda Activa with his wife when he met a person who came to visit him at 2nd MR gate at about 1.15 pm yesterday.

The individual who came to visit Amuba is identified as L Priyokumar alias Gulapi of Keishampat.

Priyokumar was earlier working in the Manipur Police Radio but has retired.

While the two were talking at 2nd MR gate, a team of commandos arrived there in two Gypsys and took them away in the Gypsys on the pretext of talking over something.

The commandos left behind Amuba's Activa there.

As her husband had been taken away, Amuba's wife Rebika turned back to their 2nd MR quarter without going to the doctor.

Amuba's Honda Activa bought from one Moirangthem Lokeshore of Yairipok Top Chingtha was seen at the spot where it was left by him till about 5 pm.

It is reported that the corpse of Amuba has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.

Bodies taken: The corpses of Md Nasimudin of Keirao Makha Leikai and Alan Haokip (28) of Myanmar, staying at Phaikoh, Ukhrul district have been handed over to their family members after completion of post mortem at RIMS today.

Md Nasimudin was shot dead by Imphal East commandos at a paddy field of Naharup Yangbi Maning Leikai last morning.

Alan Haokip, a cadre of the KNA, was killed in a shoot-out with the NSCN (IM) cadres at a spot between Chassad and Kamjong in Ukhrul district in the night of March 26.
