Imphal, January 28 2010: Villagers of Phayeng and its surrounding areas today staged a sit-in protest demanding booking of the culprits behind the murder of the widow and her teenage daughter whose dead bodies were recovered from paddy field on last weekend.

Womenfolk of Tairenpokpi, Sairem and Atom Khunou also participated in the protest which urged the authorities concerned to protection life of the common people and safeguard the modesty of the women.

On the other hand, a public meeting held at Phayeng Ching Khunou today resolved to ask the police to inform the pradhan of the area while picking up suspects during the course of investigation into the murder case.

Due to frequent visit of the police as part of investigation and rounding up suspects, villagers are feeling scared, speakers in the meeting expressed that police should inform the pradhan first before picking up any persons for verification or interrogation into the case and also issue arrest memo while picking them up.

Mention may be made that during the course of investigation, police had picked up three villagers yesterday and interrogated them in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, police are still clueless with regard to the murder of the mother and daughter.

According to the IO of case, so far no clue which can lead to the cause of murder and suspects could be established but he expressed confidence that the clue will be established soon to book the culprits.

He admitted that during the course of investigation, some inconveniences will be faced by the villagers nearby the place of occurrence.
