Imphal, December 26 2009: In continued attack on migrant workers, unidentified armed persons shot dead a non-local who supplies bakery products to different shops, today afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3 pm today, while the victim was supplying bakery products at KB Enterprises, a grocery shop located in Hijam Shopping Market, Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai along the National Highway 53 .

According to the owner of KB Enterprises Pebam Bormani as per the name recorded in the receipt book, the victim was one Madan.

He was about 27 years old.

However, where Madan had come from and where he was staying is not known though he supplied the products of a bakery firm located at Uripok.

Bormani recalled that after supplying the products more than normally as tomorrow being Sunday and finalisation of the payment, Madan was going down the staircase of the shop when two unidentified armed persons came and tried to whisk away Madan.

Madan managed to escape from the clutch of the armed persons and ran back towards the shop.

But the unidentified armed persons opened three round of fire and fled from the scene.

Critically injured Madan was immediately rushed to hospital by the local people.

But he died enroute, Bormani informed.

According to some eye witnesses, the two armed persons had come in a black colour Honda Activa.

One of the armed person sported long hair with a clean shaven look.

After committing the crime, both of them sped off towards Imphal.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Y Joykumar has iterated that further stringent police measures have been initiated to armed attack against migrant workers.

Speaking to The sangai Express today, the state police chief said movement of migrant workers in the four valley districts would be closely monitored under the supervision of Additional Superintendents of Police (Law & Order) of the said districts.

Consequently, relevant instructions have been served to the ASPs to ensure that the migrant workers remain confined at the relief camps being set-up specifically to cluster small time non-local traders, said the DGP adding that the steps had been initiated to foil further attempts by armed assailants to target migrant workers.

Conceding that providing security cover to all the non-local labourers working in the State would be an uphill task, Joykumar also expressed concerned that there had been cases of migrant workers moving out of the relief camps inspite of strong instructions to remain within the camps.
