Imphal, August 26: The 4/8 Bn Hqs of Gorkha Rifles located at Ningthoukhong Patton, ITI complex in Bishnupur district came under fierce gun attack from suspected PREPAK cadres at about 7.10 pm today.

Later in the follow-up action, one UG cadre was shot dead.

During the attack launched from different directions with lethods and M-16 rifles, one GR personnel sustained injuries, informed police sources.

On receiving news of the attack, a team of Bishnupur district commandos led by Additional SP Themthing rushed towards the GR post.

Then a combined force GR troops and Bishnupur police commandos pursued the UG cadres who were then fleeing.

On reaching Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Patton, the combined force saw the UG cadres running towards the lake.

Immediately, the combined force opened fire.

The UG cadres too retaliated.

Later, when the shoot-out ceased, the security personnel found a suspected UG cadre shot dead on a ring bund, a little distance away from the lake.

Moreover, one empty lethod, 10 empty cases of M-16 ammunition and a pistol with five live rounds were also recovered from the spot.

The corpse of the slain UG cadre has been deposited at Bishnupur police station.

SF scalps one : One suspected PULF cadre was killed by a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 AR in an encounter that took place Wangjing Lamding Leikai at about 10.30 pm yesterday.

According to a press release by the SP, Thoubal district, the combined force was conducting a 'search and destructive' operation at Wangjing-Lamding Leikai when they saw two suspected PULF cadres running out from a by-lane towards NH-39 .

The security forces shouted to stop but the militants reportedly turned around and opened fire towards the security personnel.

The combined force retaliated and one of the militant was shot dead at Tentha Lamkhai near YK College along NH 39.However, the other militant managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

One carbine with a magazine and five live rounds, a Chinese made hand grenade, four empty cases of 9 mm ammunition and 12 empty cases of AK ammunition and a demand letter labelled as Office of the Finance Cell, PULF signed by one Zahid Ahamed were recovered from the trouser of the slain cadre, added the release.
