Imphal, June 26: A meeting of the State Cabinet held yesterday has decided to extend ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of kin of the migrant workers shot dead by unidentified gunmen on June 24 .

While two migrant workers were shot dead at Natum Chingkhong under Lamlai police station, another two were shot dead at Heinoubok under Lamphel police station.

In the wake of the killing of the four migrant, the Cabinet meeting also reviewed the prevailing law and order situation in the State.

Together with the review, Home Department officials were instructed to step up security measures.

The Cabinet also approved a reward of Rs 10 lakhs to the commando team of Imphal East who succeeded in nabbing six hardcore members of the armed group PULF from Mysore on May 23.The Cabinet meeting also agreed to replace the words "security deposit" as mentioned in the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) with the words "cash deposit".

It was also agreed to inform the Government in advance about the programmes/projects that may be taken up by the Hill Areas Committee before finalising the projects and schemes that may be taken during annual and five-year plan periods.

Further the meeting resolved that the Hill Areas Committee should submit a report on the programmes/projects it was undertaking to the Government every forthnight.
